Should we put the baby in our room or her own room?

We've got a small 2 bedroom apartment and we're expecting a little girl at the end of June. We aren't sure if we should put her in our room to begin with or if we should put her in her own room. We want to make sure that we hear her if she cries. I think that we will if we leave both doors open because the rooms are right next to each other. Also, if we put her in our room there won't be room for our bed and her crib so we'd have to buy another small bed or binet for her. We don't have a lot of money. I was thinking that as long as we'll hear her then we should just put her in her own room so that she doesn't get scared if she's used to being in our room and then we move her to her own. Does that sound plausible? Is there any reason that she should definitely be in our room for a while? We don't believe in co-sleeping and we don't want to coddle her too much to the point that she won't sleep on her own, but we don't want to scare her or not coddle her enough. (We're first time parents)
